ABOUT MS. McCABE

Martha is originally from Kirtland, NM on the Navajo Reservation where her passion of music education started. This is Martha's second year at Bayfield Elementary School and as a teacher. Before coming to Bayfield, Martha has studied clarinet and music education while playing in multiple ensembles at Fort Lewis College. She received her B.A. in K-12 Music Education in 2015. Aside from teaching at BES, Martha is a baton twirler for the Navajo Nation Band and currently plays clarinet and bass clarinet for the Southwest Civic Winds. She also teaches private lessons.

Martha is determined to learn new things to help with her practices in the classroom so the students can have a great musical experience. She strives to find the individual connections we all have through music and helping students explore their musical sides through performing and playing with numerous instruments.

MitM 5th Gr. Concert Field Trip

Dear 5th Grade Parent(s) and students,

As the year continues, so do great opportunities! On Monday February 6, 2017, the Fort Lewis College music department and the organization, Music in the Mountains, will be putting on a concert for the 5th grade classes from the surrounding schools. It will include performances from the FLC concert band, choir, jazz band, and chamber orchestra. By attending this concert, students will have more input on an instrument that they can choose to play in 6th grade. Overall, it’s a great experience and I would love each and every student to be able to come. More information and the permission slip is attached on the PDF. Please return permission slips by Thursday February 2, 2017.

Thank you!

2nd Grade Holiday Program

Dear 2nd Grade Parent(s) and students,

On Monday December 19, 2016, your student will perform in their Holiday Program at the Bayfield High School Auditorium! Students have been working hard on their musician skills in class for months! So we’re excited to show everyone what we learned! With the holidays soon approaching, there are a few things to keep in mind over Thanksgiving break so everything runs as smooth as possible!

  • Students should do their best to be at school every day!
  • Try practicing at home with family and loved ones.
  • Every student has an important role to fill for this concert and it will be a part of their grade! However, if your student is unable to attend, please fill out the attached form and return it to me ASAP so I can change parts if necessary and it won’t impact their grade.
  • On Dec. 19, students should be dropped off at 5:30 p.m. at the south entrance of the BHS auditorium and meet their teacher in the band/choir room. Supervision won’t be available for students before 5:30 pm.
  • For grading and safety, parents MUST sign their child in and out with their classroom teachers.
  • Concert starts at 6:00 p.m. and approximately will end at 6:45 p.m.
  • ALL students should wear festive appropriate attire! (Red, green or anything holiday!)
  • If you are unable to make the evening performance, you are welcomed to watch their dress rehearsal at BHS on the morning of the 19th at 10:00 a.m.
  • I’ll be sending home another note with the students when it gets closer to concert time so be on the lookout!
  • If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me!
  • Please join us in celebrating the winter holidays! The students have worked very hard and I’m sure you will enjoy the performance.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing both you and your student in holiday attire!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Homecoming Permission Slip

Hello 5th grade families!

Students should have already received a paper slip but as a precaution, here is the slip as a pdf. If needed, you can print it out or fill it out and email. The last day I will take permission slips is Thursday October 6, 2016.

Thank you!
Ms. McCabe

Go Bayfield!

Hello 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Students and Parents!

3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will need a soprano recorder for general music studies. A percentage of students’ grades will be based on bringing their supplies every day to class, this includes their recorders! Learning to play the recorder opens up a huge, hands on musical experience for the students to enjoy!

If your child (family) already has a recorder, please bring it in and I will determine if it is suitable for class. Otherwise, please enclose $6.00 in a sealed envelope with your child’s name and classroom teacher on the front. This money will purchase your student a high quality Peripole C Soprano Recorder, a case, and a lanyard. Please do NOT purchase a recorder for your child.

***If you are paying by check, make it out to Bayfield Elementary School or BES.

If you are not able to afford a recorder please notify me (note, email, phone) and I will provide one for you. If you are able to contribute a little extra for someone who might be in need please consider doing so.

Thank you,

Martha McCabe

About a week ago, the music room welcomed a wonderful new addition! We certainly wasted no time putting the rug to work! Two students from Ms. Love's class try to identify notes with their whole bodies!

New year, new goals, new lessons?

A great way to start off the new year is by learning some new skills! If you or your student is interested in learning clarinet or bass clarinet, please contact me by email for more information!
